Ottawa, March 29, 2017 — The Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) today confirmed the appointment of Mike Villeneuve, RN, M.Sc., to the position of CEO. This appointment, which takes effect June 1, 2017, comes ahead of the forthcoming retirement of current CEO Anne Sutherland Boal.
“CNA is pleased to welcome well-respected nursing leader Mike Villeneuve at the helm of the organization,” said CNA president Barb Shellian. “Mike will lead CNA in building on its successes in Canadian nursing policy as well as develop the vision that will transform the profession in the coming years. He returns to the association where he was a senior nursing consultant, scholar-in-residence, executive lead on the National Expert Commission, and lead for CNA’s Toward 2020 initiative. Mike will begin an orderly leadership transition with Anne over the next two months.”
“I am honoured to take on the CEO role at CNA to serve both the nursing profession and our members in advancing their vital contributions to the health of all Canadians each and every day,” said Villeneuve. “We will continue to build on CNA’s successes in supporting better home- and community-based care and ensuring that transformative changes to our publicly funded, not-for-profit health system are beneficial to all Canadians.”
“Anne Sutherland Boal has been a strong, collaborative and engaged leader who made a significant contribution to the nursing profession,” said Shellian. “Mike will continue building on this collaboration and work with our members and national health organizations in further developing a vision for CNA’s future.”
For the past five years, Villeneuve has been a lecturer in public policy, leadership and administration at the Lawrence S. Bloomberg faculty of nursing at the University of Toronto, where he also served as program lead for the master of nursing in health systems leadership and administration program.
