Apply for Certification Online

Beginning September 1, 2011, online application is available to first-time candidates only. If you apply online, you are given priority for notification of your eligibility. The online application process can be saved and restarted at any time. First-time applicants can also apply by mail.

Please review the eligibility criteria in the application guide before beginning your application. You can review the application form before you begin the online process to learn what you’ll be asked. Special criteria apply to occupational health and enterostomal therapy applicants.

Seven Easy Steps

1:  Get a password

To begin, complete and submit the general information form. Have your RN licence and CNA certification numbers ready. You will only have a certification number if you applied previously.

After you submit the form, you will be e-mailed login information and a password for the next steps.

2:  Log in and complete the certification application form

Use the password you received after Step 1 to access and complete the certification application form.

3:  Verify the general information submitted in Step 1

4:  Select eligibility option

Select the eligibility option most relevant to you. These options are described in the application form.

5:  Provide your eligibility information

Complete your nursing education history and nursing specialty experience. Be specific and thorough – this information is crucial in determining your eligibility.

Provide an e-mail address and contact information for a person in the specialty who can verify your application information.

6:  Read the statement of understanding and pay the application fees by credit card

7:  Complete demographic information

Demographic information collected during your application is used by CNA to obtain statistics relevant to the CNA Certification Program. The information is anonymous and used in a non-identifiable form. Thank you for taking a few moments to complete this important information.

What to expect after you apply – eligibility verification

• The person you designated to verify your application information will receive an e-mail indicating that you have applied for CNA certification. He or she will receive a secure and private link to your application to verify your information.
• Once your information has been verified, CNA staff will review your application to determine your eligibility.
• Once eligibility is determined, a confirmation e-mail containing your access code to the online Certification Exam Prep Guide will be sent to you.
• At the end of application process, you will receive a copy of the information that was reviewed by your supervisor.

All inquiries about the processing of your application, changes to your contact information, verification of status, withdrawal, or refunds can be handled by the CNA Certification Program Processing Centre at 1-800-450-5206. Changes to contact information can also be e-mailed to CNA or can be made by completing this online form.

Inquiries about nursing, certification eligibility, continuous learning activities and/or any other questions about certification unrelated to the application process should be directed to the CNA Certification Program at 1-800-361-8404 or e-mailed to CNA.
