Think Tank: Toward a National Report Card in Nursing: A Knowledge Synthesis
In August 2011, CNA and the Academy of Canadian Executive Nurses (ACEN) submitted proposals to Canada Health Infoway (“Infoway”) and Health Canada to support various aspects of piloting a national nursing report card. The proposals included over two dozen letters of support from organizations across Canada.
The project began in February 2011 when, with financial support from Health Canada, ACEN, Infoway and CNA partnered to host a collaborative forum of nursing leaders. Forum objectives included creating a shared vision and critical path for a national report card on nursing, and generating support among nursing leadership for developing concrete steps toward achieving the report card through collaboration with other national initiatives. This synthesis document provided information from Canada and around the world.
C-HOBIC
International Classification for Nursing Practice: Nursing Outcome Indicators Catalogue
This milestone publication, developed jointly with CNA and the International Council of Nurses (ICN), provides a cross-map between the standardized terms used in the Canadian Health Outcomes for Better Information and Care (C-HOBIC) initiative with those in the International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP®). To obtain a copy of the catalogue, you can either contact Sandra Udle at sudle@cna-aiic.ca while complimentary copies last, or purchase it directly from ICN.
The C-HOBIC project, which ran from 2007 to 2010, initiated the collection of standardized patient outcome data related to nursing for use in electronic health records in parts of Saskatchewan and Manitoba, building on the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care HOBIC program. The C-HOBIC Toolkit provides a variety of information and resources from the C-HOBIC project. A phase 2 proposal is under consideration for funding by Canada Health Infoway.
