Mr. Sylvain Brousseau holds a diploma in nursing from College André Laurendeau, a Bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Ottawa, a Master's degree and a PhD in nursing sciences and option administration from the Université de Montréal. He is currently an associate professor in nursing sciences at the Université du Québec en Outaouais at Saint-Jérôme campus. Sylvain’s research focuses on the humanistic perspective of the quality of work life among nurses and nurse managers inspired by Watson's Caring Science. He is interested in the development of national policy on the organizational humanization of health services and the integration of political competencies into the nursing profession. He attends many provincial, national and international nursing conferences and has issued several publications related to his nursing research as well as in the domain of education.

Mr. Brousseau began his career as a beneficiary attendant for 7 years before becoming a nurse in 1993. He has worked in acute care, community health, nursing management, and in infection prevention control. Mr. Brousseau has a vast and rich experience in nursing governance and over the years has developed a sociopolitical credibility within the nursing profession in Quebec. He also has vast and rich experience in nursing governance (2002-2013) by serving as a member of the board of directors of the Regional Order of Nurses of the Laurentians / Lanaudière as well as on the board of directors of the Order of Nurses of Quebec (2006-2008). He also served 10 years on the board of directors of the Regional Laurentians Nursing Commission. He has developed a strong sociopolitical leadership within the nursing profession in Quebec. Sylvain co-founded and chaired the Regroupement pour l’avenir de la profession infirmière au Québec (2014-2017) and the Quebec Nurses Association (2017-2018). He has also served as a Quebec administrator on the CNA Board of Directors (2017-2019) and as a member of the Governance and Leadership Committee. In June of 2020, he was appointed President-Elect of the Canadian Nurses Association. He is also currently serving on the academic board of directors of the Assembly of Governors of the University of Quebec (2019-2022). His commitment and professional associations show that over the years, he has developed a specific knowledge in nursing governance, sociopolitical issues in nursing and healthcare as well as in nursing education. He is a strong advocate for the nursing profession.
