Indigenous Health Care

Indigenous knowing resources

This section represents a collaborative initiative between the Aboriginal Nurses Association of Canada and the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch, Health Canada. Nurses, regardless of where they live or what domain they practice within, will at some point be involved in the care of aboriginal clients.

First Nations and Inuit Health National Nursing Orientation Manual

The National Nursing Orientation Manual has been prepared by Health Canada's First Nations and Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB) as a standardized tool to guide the orientation of community health nurses employed by Health Canada delivering nursing services in First Nations communities across Canada. The manual addresses the question, "What does a nurse, who is new to community health nursing practice in a First Nations community, need to know?"
