CALGARY - (July 2, 2025) — The Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) and the Alberta Association of Nurses (AAN) are thrilled to announce that their landmark partnership, announced on May 20, officially took effect on July 1. AAN has officially become an Organizational Affiliate of CNA, strengthening the vital role of Alberta’s nurses on the national scene and reinforcing the collective influence of nurses across Canada.

AAN members are now also CNA members. Meaning all AAN members have access to CNA’s leadership programs, certification opportunities and exclusive nursing resources and events. Members can look forward to webinars, advocacy campaigns, certification programs and leadership initiatives designed to support their professional journey.

For existing CNA members in Alberta, the partnership ensures continuity of membership benefits with additional flexibility. Alberta-based CNA members will have the option to renew their memberships through AAN or directly with CNA, offering tailored solutions to meet their specific needs.

This partnership marks a significant milestone, reflecting CNA’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and representation from all regions of Canada. It is a step forward in building a nursing community that advocates effectively at the national level and creates opportunities for professional growth and collaboration.

Says Dr. Valerie Grdisa, CEO of CNA,"The Alberta Association of Nurses joining CNA as an Organizational Affiliate is a tremendous moment for the nursing profession in Canada. Together, we are strengthening our collective voice and ensuring that nurses have the representation they deserve at the national level. This partnership will open new doors for engagement, advocacy, and professional growth for Alberta’s nurses.”

Says Terri Shaul, Operations Director of AAN, “We are excited to bring Alberta’s nurses back into Canada’s national professional nursing association. Joining forces with CNA enables us to amplify the voices of Alberta’s nurses while providing them with enhanced resources, opportunities, and a direct connection to national health policy. This partnership is a win for nurses and the communities they serve.”

This partnership reaffirms CNA’s dedication to bringing together nurses from all categories, sectors, and regions to advance the profession and shape the future of health care in Canada. Together, CNA and AAN are building a stronger nursing community that will continue to make a profound impact on the health and well-being of people in Canada.
