Overview
The Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) is seeking nominations for the position of president-elect.
This is a senior leadership role within CNA. The successful candidate will serve a four-year term:
- 2026–2028: president-elect
- 2028–2030: president
As outlined in CNA’s by-laws, the president-elect must be a nurse in good standing with their regulatory body.
About the role
The president-elect is a key member of CNA’s board of directors and plays a critical role in governance, strategy, and national representation.
This role prepares the individual to assume the presidency and lead the organization.
Key responsibilities
- Serve as a voting member of the board
- Support the president in governing CNA
- Chair board meetings in the president’s absence
- Lead key committees (e.g., governance, finance & audit)
- Contribute to national representation of CNA
- Prepare to assume the role of president

Eligibility requirements
Candidates must:
- Be a CNA member in good standing
- Be a licensed nurse in good standing with a regulatory body
- Meet the CNA director eligibility requirements
- Demonstrate leadership experience
- Be able to fulfil board and committee responsibilities
Term of office
The president-elect serves a single four-year term, transitioning to president after two years.
Important information about the election
Members vote in advance to elect candidates from the proposed slate. No voting takes place at the annual meeting of members.
