June 13, 2022 — The Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) welcomes the Alberta Association of Nurses (AAN) to Canada’s national community of nurses. The new association was launched last month, on the first day of national nursing week.
“CNA congratulates its colleagues at AAN on their official launch. We are excited to see all regulated nurses coming together in Alberta to shape their future and ensure a strong, unified voice for the nursing profession in the province,” said Tim Guest, CEO of CNA. “We look forward to working with AAN on shared priorities and on strengthening the nursing profession.”
AAN was created as a result of a transition in the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA), which voted in 2020 to separate its dual mandates. AAN was formally founded in 2021 to ensure there is one collective voice for all categories of nurses, including registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, registered psychiatric nurses and nurse practitioners, as well as students and retired nurses.
Members of AAN are not automatically members of CNA. We encourage all nurses in Alberta to join CNA.
