November 3, 2025 — The Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) is pleased to announce the launch of its first-ever chapter model, with the inaugural Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter. This new structure will strengthen the voice of nurses in the province, enhance their collective influence on health policy, and foster greater engagement across the country. CNA is inviting its members in Newfoundland and Labrador to participate in the election of the Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter’s first executive committee and encouraging non-members to join CNA to take part in this foundational process.
Once elected, the newly created Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter Executive Committee will include two co-chairs, a treasurer, and a secretary. With the guidance of the executive committee, the Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter will build a strong professional practice network and advance CNA’s mission at the provincial level.
“Launching the Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter is an important step in building a unified nursing voice across Canada,” said Dr. Valerie Grdisa, CEO of CNA. “We encourage all nurses in the province to join the first inaugural CNA chapter and vote for your inaugural executive committee to shape the future of nursing in Newfoundland and Labrador.”
Key details:
- CNA members in Newfoundland and Labrador who are in good standing by January 2, 2026, will be eligible to vote.
- December 5 – January 2, 2026: Eligible members (in good standing by December 5) may submit their application and intent to run for an executive position as co-chair, treasurer, or secretary.
- January 12 – 23, 2026: Voting period. All eligible members will receive an email with voting instructions.
- Election results will be announced in the weeks following the vote, and work will begin to grow and strengthen the Chapter’s activities.
CNA’s newly introduced Chapter model modernizes the ways in which members can join our growing Association, complementing our existing membership models; individual membership, specialty nursing association affiliate as part of the Canadian Network of Nursing Specialties, or organizational affiliate.
